Striking impression of this evocative work, printed in shades of warm brown ink. Designed as plate VI for the series Le Cantique des Creatures of 1894. Apparently a proof impression, as indicated by the white cross at the lower right corner of the image. This impression does not carry the printed Latin verse found on other examples from this series.
The stone for this lithograph cracked early in printing and the line created by this crack has been partially retouched on this impression.
On China paper applied to original pale warm white wove backing sheet, as issued, with full margins. Very fine condition. |
