Very fine signed proof impression from the only edition.
This highly stylised landscape work was engraved soon after Charles Murray's arrival in Italy – the strangely twisted forms of the cacti in the foreground are derived directly from studies which Charles Murray had made in the Borghese Gardens opposite the buildings of the British School at Rome.
An impression of this line engraving is held in the British School at Rome Scholarship Print Collection (item no.59).
On cream wove paper with margins and deckle edge. Time tone in outer margins only, otherwise generally very good original condition. Image surface excellent. |
