Excellent impression with fresh burr to the drypoint lines. One of a very few signed proofs, aside from the normal edition of 50 numbered impressions.
One of Edgar Chahine’s finest portraits of his favoured model Germaine, Germaine en pied depicts this attractive young girl as the epitome of the petite bourgeois. Edgar Chahine’s art represents an unique blend of intuitive observation with the fanciful elegance of the Belle Époque. This stylish combination is demonstrated beautifully in the marvellous image of Germaine en pied. It is prints of this nature which were to win Edgar Chahine renown as one of the finest printmakers of his time.
On warm white wove simile Japan paper. One small stain near top of image. Some traces of creasing, otherwise very good condition. |
