Excellent signed proof impression of this dramatic original etching. One of only ten signed and numbered proofs printed for the only edition. In original decorative mount. Very rare.

Maximilian Dasio has depicted Ariadne on the shore of the island of Dia (Naxos) expressing her anguish at having been abandoned by her love Theseus (it was Ariadne who had given Theseus the thread by which he found his way out of the labyrinth after killing the Minotaur). She was later found on the island by the god Dionysus who married her and made her immortal.

The number “1” impression, from the collection of Ernst Seeger. On smooth simile Japan paper with full margins. Faintest suggestion of time tone, otherwise very fine original condition. The original decorative mount is printed in black ink on grey paper and is in generally good original condition.
