The famous artist and craftsman Sir Frank Brangwyn stands alone amongst the great figures of early 20th century British art. A truly large-scale artist, whose work spans from vast mural conceptions including the British Empire Panels designed for the House of Lords and huge decorative schemes for public buildings such as the front of Selfridges in Oxford Street, to furniture design, ceramic design, and printmaking in almost all of its forms. Rarely has a British artist been honoured with so many distinctions from so many different countries and rarely is their work so widely represented in international museums. Yet, despite the awards heaped upon him, Sir Frank Brangwyn and the style of art which he created remained an isolated phenomenom, never generating a school of followers in their wake. Sir Frank Brangwyn and his work were celebrated in a long overdue series of major international exhibitions in 2006. [more]
