Frederick Vango Burridge was one of the most romantic and atmospheric etchers of English landscape of the early 20th century. Introduced to etching technique by Frank Short, F.V. Burridge broke away in his own direction in the interpretation of landscape through etching. In many ways, his mature work, shows more in common with that of William Palmer Robins than with the style of his early teacher.

A highly active member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers from the mid-1890’s until the beginning of the Second World War, Burridge produced around 100 original etchings, many of which were never released in formal editions. He was also a prolific watercolourist and taught in both Liverpool and London.
