This exhibition offers a unique collection of original drawings and watercolours by the acclaimed wood engraver Guy Malet, all of which come from the sale of the artist's studio contents nearly thirty years ago.
Guy Warre Malet was one of the dynamic group of artists who emerged from the Grosvenor School of Modern Art pioneering a new style of printmaking and linocutting. Guy Malet and his lifelong friend, Iain Macnab (the founder and principal of the Grosvenor School), were the most diverse and skilled printmakers of the group, becoming especially well known for their highly accomplished wood engravings as both made comparatively few linocuts, all of which are now extremely rare.
This collection of drawings and watercolours by Guy Malet features numerous genre and figure studies, subjects rarely encountered in Malet's printed works, but which attest to his natural skills as an artist and draftsman.
