Original Eleanor Hughes etching.
Exceptionally fine proof impression, from the artist’s own personal collection. Signed with the artist’s stamped signature. Prior to the normal published edition of 50 numbered impressions.
This striking image of Cornish Elms is one of the artist’s largest original etchings. Her fascination with the sculpturesque structure of trees is seen here to the full. In particular, Eleanor Hughes loved to depict trees when bare of leaves, for only then could the fascinating patterns created by their limbs be seen clearly. In characteristic style, Hughes has chosen an unusual viewpoint showing only a partial glimpse of the farm buildings which are incidental to the main objects of our attention. A truly outstanding example of this artist’s distinctive etched work.
On heavy cream laid paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Minor foxing verso only; slight discolouration at left corner of sheet, otherwise very good original condition. |
