Excellent impression with fresh colour, from the edition of only 25 signed and numbered proofs with the hair printed in sanguine ink. As published by Sagot, Paris and with his blindstamp in the lower margin of the sheet.
L’Enlèvement (The Abduction) is a strangely isolated subject in Jacques Villon’s œuvre – produced as a large colour print using soft ground etching and aquatint, it stands out as a particularly unusual grotesque image during the period of Jacques Villon’s involvement in the art of the French Belle Époque.
On smooth cream wove paper with full margins. Some short nicks at extreme edges of sheet and one expertly reapired tear in left hand margin, just entering platemark, otherwise very good original condition. |
