Original William Russell Flint drypoint.

The artist’s finest drypoint figure study, The Shrimper epitomises the style of female nude through which Russell Flint achieved lasting fame.

Outstanding impression with rich drypoint burr, from the only edition of 75 signed and numbered proofs.

The plate of The Shrimper was originally horizontal and the scene included two other naked companions, at either side of the woman we see here. Only one impression including all three figures was pulled (coll. British Museum), the sides of the plate being removed and destroyed to produce the vertical picture before us.

Inscribed by the artist “Paper: J. Cripps 1799” and dated “13: 10.2.32”.

On cream laid paper, watermarked with the coat of arms of J. Cripps, with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. Image surface excellent.
