Original Edmund Blampied drypoint.

Superb impression with exceptionally rich burr to the drypoint line, from the only published edition of 100 signed proofs.

Cats appear in many of Edmund Blampied’s cartoons and lithographic images; however, they feature in only three of his original etchings and drypoints. Here, the black cat or Fisherman’s Pet is depicted with the inherent understanding of animal movement which characterises Blampied’s draftsmanship. The cat strains forward to drink milk from its bowl, balancing with its tail erect, whilst a young lad strokes its neck and its owner, a Jersey fisherman, leans relaxed, in reflective mood, pipe in hand.

On cream wove paper, watermarked Whatman 1919, with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. Image surface excellent.
