Original Edgar Holloway etching.
Excellent signed proof impression in the second state of the plate, as finished by the artist in 1990. One of 50 proofs from the only numbered edition of this etching.
In this state the etching has been completed with much additional shading to the houses and across the foreground wall. The majority of the etched work in the sky has been burnished down and new areas of etched diagonal lines have been added just above the roof line of the Minster at either side of the tower. The shadows and contrast throughout the work are now much changed from the preceding state.
St. George’s, Doncaster shows a view of Sir Gilbert Scott’s impressive Minster seen from the canal-side, across the yard of the Volunteer Public House with beer kegs piled in the foreground.
On cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. Excellent original condition. |
