Original Edgar Holloway etching.
Outstanding impression in the first state of the plate, prior to the additional shading on the foreground houses and before much alteration of the sky. Signed and inscribed in pencil by Edgar Holloway “First state”.
One of only 12 proofs printed in the first state, of which 8 are owned by Campbell Fine Art. A particularly splendid, strong, dark proof impression in this early state of the plate.
St. George’s, Doncaster shows a view of Sir Gilbert Scott’s impressive Minster seen from the canal-side, across the yard of the Volunteer Public House with beer kegs piled in the foreground.
On cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. Excellent original condition. |
