Original Marius Bauer etching.
Excellent impression printed in brownish black ink with plate tone. From the only edition of 100 signed proofs.
A Palanquin (a boxchair carried on poles) shows a busy street in Istanbul on Marius Bauer’s first trip to the orient. The highly distinctive sketchy style which Marius Bauer originated for these beautifully observed views still appears modern in its nature and was well ahead of its time. Indeed, the style of frieze-like composition found in this etching was later to be adopted by a great admirer of Marius Bauer’s work, namely the Belgian born painter and etcher, Sir Frank Brangwyn.
On cream laid Van Gelder Zonen paper with full margins and deckle edge. Generally very good original condition. |
