Original Marius Bauer etching.
Excellent impression with clear, crisp detail. From the only edition of 100 signed proofs.
During a trip to the Balkans in the late 1890's Marius Bauer became intrigued by Roumanian folklore after being lent a French language copy of the Roumanian folkstory La Jeunesse Inaltérable et la Vie Eternelle - a book which he went on to illustrate with 48 etchings. A Fairy Tale is one of the exotic imaginary subjects which he developed for this project, but which was not used in the eventual book edition, remaining available only as a signed proof etching.
On cream laid paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Mild discolouration at one extreme edge of sheet, otherwise very good original condition. |
