Original J.R.G. Exley etching with touches of aquatint.

Excellent signed proof impression of this highly finished work. The artist’s own exhibition proof, inscribed with exhibition number, title, price and the artist’s address in the upper margin, verso.

J.R.G. Exley developed an extremely fine etching technique, the precision of which rivals that of H.G. Warlow and the American etcher John Taylor Arms in its detail. Despite Exley’s particular love of birds, he produced a number of prints associated with hunting, including A Youthful Falconer in quest of Sport and Wild Drakes. Catch of the Season is both an unusual and an especially fine portrayal of an English hunting stables.

On warm white laid paper, watermarked O.W.P. & A.C.L., with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine condition.
