Original Francis Seymour Haden etching with drypoint.
Excellent impression in the first published state, as issued in Haden’s Études ŕ l’eau-forte.
This moonlit seascape was sketched directly onto the copper plate while Francis Seymour Haden stood on the deck of a cross-Channel steamer as it approached the French port of Calais at 3 a.m.
On fine laid paper with thread margins, on original sheet section from Études ŕ l’eau-forte, as issued. Mild foxing in the thread margins, otherwise very fine original condition.
