Original Marius Bauer etching.
Very good, strong impression with pronounced etched line, printed in brownish black ink with plate tone. From the only edition of 100 signed proofs.
A Street in Jerusalem shows a busy street in Jerusalem on Marius Bauer’s second trip to the orient. The highly distinctive sketchy style which Marius Bauer originated for these beautifully observed views still appears modern in its nature and was well ahead of its time. Indeed, the style of frieze-like composition found in this etching was later to be adopted by a great admirer of Marius Bauer’s work, namely the Belgian born painter and etcher, Sir Frank Brangwyn.
This particular proof impression is from the collection of the etcher F.L. Griggs, whose initials "F.L.G." and the date "Decr. 1913" are inscribed in pencil at the lower left of the sheet.
On cream laid Van Gelder Zonen paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very good original condition. |
