Original John Crome etching and softground etching.
Beautiful early impression as completed by John Crome, prior to any of the re-work. From the first published edition of 60 impressions, as issued by Mrs. Crome, the artist's widow. A very fine example before the plate began to show the signs of wear which are particularly apparent in later impressions.
This charming work is thought to have been one of John Crome’s earliest etchings. It displays an unusual combination of etching and soft ground etching in a manner which John Crome used on only one other of his printed works - the plate of Colney, etched in 1809.
On off-white chine collé laid on original warm white wove backing sheet, as issued. With margins. Very fine condition. |
