Reginald Dent found endless inspiration in the countryside of Gloucestershire and its neighbouring county, his native Monmouthshire. It was Dent’s practice to draw directly onto the copperplate and the true to life spontaneity which resulted from this practice is clearly apparent in this charming rural view.
The meticulous needling of this particular etching is closely comparable with the etched works of Stanley Badmin. Both Reggie Dent and S.R.Badmin had been pupils of Malcolm Osborne and Robert Sargent Austin at the Royal College of Art and the scrupulous naturalism each of these etchers acquired from this background is clearly apparent in both artists’ works.
On cream laid paper, with full margins. Very fine original condition. |
