Scarce pencil signed proof impression of this fine etched view of Oxford.
Most examples of F.A.Slocombe’s original etched works are only known today from mass produced publications such as The Portfolio – pencil signed proofs of this quality are rare. The image shows a view of Magdalen College Tower seen through the trees which line College Walk. Dated in the plate – although the date is partially obscured, it appears to read 1883.
On heavy cream wove paper with full margins. Sheet heavily discoloured verso. Some small patches of isolated foxing recto, otherwise generally good original condition. |
