Original ink drawing by Alexander J. Heaney.

Original ink drawing squared up in pencil, apparently for transfer in the creation of an etching.

St James’ Square in Bristol was partially lost to wartime bombing and then completely removed for post war developments along Bond Street and St James Barton, the final phase of which took place in 1968.

To the right of Heaney’s image is Foresters’ Medical Institute, based at 14 St James’ Square. All that is now know of this establishment is that the resident dispenser was one William Herring and the secretary was W.J. Bunn. The Ancient Order of Foresters was listed at the same address.

On off-white artist’s drawing board with full margins. Generally very good original condition.

Provenance: From the collection of Phyllis Heaney, the artist’s daughter – thence by descent to her granddaughter.
