The rare original etchings of the Scottish painter John Stevens are seldom found today. Primarily a genre and portrait painter, John Stevens was born at Ayr and studied at the Royal Academy Schools, where he obtained two silver medals in 1818. He was a foundation member of the Royal Scottish Academy and he exhibited extensively in London from 1815 until the mid-1860’s. He died in Edinburgh after a railway accident in France. [more] |
