Ernest Eric Newton was an etcher, engraver and wood engraver. He trained in printmaking techniques at The Royal College of Art, where he met his friend and contemporary, Geoffrey Wedgwood. After this initial training he was invited by his sponsor, Sir Alexander Grant, to Logie House in Morayshire to make a series of pictures of the house and its surroundings, some of which were made as drypoints and aquatints. As a young man he worked in etching with Griggs at Chipping Campden during the 1920’s, but went on to explore the techniques of line engraving, developing a style much influenced by his friend Geoffrey Wedgwood. Extremely few of E.E.Newton’s rare printed works were ever issued in any form of published edition and all are now scarce. [more]
