Original Eleanor Hughes etching.
Excellent working proof impression from the artist’s own personal collection. Signed with the artist’s stamped signature.
All of Eleanor Hughes’ etchings are concerned with the area where she lived; however, rather than being pure topographical views they are strange, incidental studies of the changing seasons and their effects upon aspects of the landscapes of the West Country. In this image Eleanor Hughes has demonstrated her considerable ability at controlled biting of the etching plate in order to emphasise a sense of perspective. The heavily bitten foreground trees create the effect of recession through their striking contrast with the much finer lines which delineate the distant farms and hillside beyond. In characteristic style Hughes has chosen a high viewpoint showing only the roofs of the foreground farm which is dominated by tall Cornish elms. A particularly fine example of this artist’s distinctive etched work.
On cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. |
