Excellent impression from the edition of 72 signed proofs and 8 trial impressions. Printed in blue, grey, pink, red, buff, brown and black inks. The projected edition had been 150 impressions, but was never completed.
John Edgar Platt exhibited an impression of this woodcut at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 1929 (no.747).
On cream simile Japan paper with margins. Very good original condition.
Provenance: Collection of the artist and printmaker Robert Sargent Austin, thence by descent to Rachel Austin, one of the artist’s two daughters. |
