Original Francis Seymour Haden etching with drypoint.
Very good impression, first issue as published by The Portfolio; prior to the later re-prints.
This plate was etched by Francis Seymour Haden directly from nature by moonlight at Deptford on the River Thames. The full moon can be seen in the sky, appearing from behind a cloud, above the stern of the anchored brig.
A very good, clear example of the first printing made for issue in The Portfolio in 1876, printed on cream laid paper with the armorial crest watermark used specifically for this issue; with wide margins. Very fine original condition. |
