Wedgwood, the Last Days at Etruria. Removing the Moulds |

Original etching. Signed in pencil. S 240 x 273 mm; P & I 151 x 201 mm SOLD |

Original etching by Leonard Brammer.
Very strong, signed proof impression from the only edition.
At the time Leonard Brammer was commissioned to make his etchings of the Wedgwood factory at Etruria the business was being transferred to its new site, and by 1950 the Etruria works had been completely vacated. With the exception of the nothern roundhouse, none of the old Etruria works remains. There is a sadness and an opressive air of dereliction to this image showing a cart horse dragging away the moulds from the empty factories as though drawing the hearse for a funeral.
On cream wove paper with full margins. Very fine original condition. Image surface excellent |
