Original Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe wood engraving.

Excellent signed proof impression, printed by the artist himself.

Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe's striking large scale wood engravings are the most sought after of all of his printed works. Best known as an artist and illustrator of birds, C.F. Tunnicliffe created only a relatively few independent wood engravings of this nature. All of these elaborate works display a remarkable power of execution and a masterly understanding of wood engraving technique. Canadas in Cheshire is one of the largest and most elaborate of these impressive independent wood engravings.

On simile Japan paper with full margins and deckle edges. Some mild creasing in outer margins of sheet, otherwise very fine original condition. Image surface excellent.

This superb signed proof impression printed by C.F. Tunnicliffe himself is of an entirely different quality to the unsigned modern edition printed from Tunnicliffe's block in 2009. It is a excellent example of this magnificent original wood engraving.
