Very good signed proof impression, printed with plate tone.
The title of this elaborate etching is unknown; however, there is a clear sense of sadness throughout the image which speaks of things passing away. An elderly woman stands, head bowed, resting upon her stick, beside the willow trees - a grave marked by a simple cross lies beyond whilst the setting sun touches the distant horizon. A tiny kingfisher sits just above the water on the lower branches of the willow tree, reflecting the old lady's pose. Far from being a simple landscape, this is a deeply emotive scene imbued with sorrow and reminiscence.
On dark cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. Minor unobtrusive foxing and a few small marginal defects consistent with age, otherwise generally good original condition. |
