Excellent signed proof impression with pronounced etched line; printed by the artist himself.
Although the title of The Brewery Cellar has been suggested for this work, it may depict the inside of one of the sherry or wine warehouses of Bristol, as the small, curved, metal-bound barrels seen in this image are typical of those used for these products.
An impression is held in the collection of Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, reference Mb1530.
On cream laid F J Head & Co paper with full margins and deckle edge. Mild mat line in margins, otherwise generally very good original condition.
Provenance: From the collection of Phyllis Heaney, the artist’s daughter – thence by descent to her granddaughter. |
