Original Arthur Briscoe etching.

Excellent impression from the only edition of 75 signed and numbered proofs.

One of the most dramatic of Arthur Briscoe's etchings of the high seas, Hove To ranks amongst the great prints of the British Etching Revival. Hurst opens his description of this etching: "Many people will rate this picture as amongst the artist's best. James McBey, I believe, admired it above all Briscoe's work". Here we see a tall ship caught in the full force of a gale, the water streaming over her hull as she fights her way through the storm. Hove To is a truly remarkable piece of etching and one of the finest marine pieces of its era.

On warm cream laid paper with armorial crest watermark G.J., with full margins and deckle edge. Excellent original condition.
