Original Sylvia Gosse soft ground etching.

Superb signed proof impression from the only edition. A particularly beautiful and atmospheric example of this rare print.

This large soft ground etching by Sylvia Gosse relates closely to Sickert’s Camden Town Murder, La Belle Gâtée plate of 1908 (Bromberg 131) and to his somewhat similar compositions of Red Cross, and The Iron Bedstead, both thought to date from around 1914 to 1915 (Bromberg 162 & 163). The composition and some elements of the mood in this design hark back to Sickert’s earlier work, whilst the style of vertical shading which Gosse has used relates more closely to Sickert’s etchings of the 1914-15 period.

The Iron Bedstead is one of the largest and most impressive of Sylvia Gosse’s, highly accomplished original prints.

On pale cream laid paper watermarked F. J. H.. With full margins and deckle edge. Excellent condition.
