Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe’s etchings have a weighty solidity perfectly suited to the earthy rural nature of their subject matter. In Christmas Chickens, one woman feeds the chickens grain, which they peck from the snowy ground, whilst the other carries away a bird which has been freshly killed – this element of the harsh reality of farming, rather than just its more picturesque aspects is an ever present feature of C.F.Tunnicliffe’s etched works.
On cream laid paper, watermarked 1825, with margins as prepared by the artist. Time toned within mat window area, otherwise very good original condition. |
