George Mackley specialised in wood engravings of waterways and their bridges. This particular scene, with its brick pavements, buildings, trees, water and boats has provided the artist with a wide variety of textures through which George Mackley has been able to demonstrate his astonishing technical ability as a white-line wood engraver.
