Excellent impression with strong, dark inking and fine, clear detail. Signed proof from the only edition.
Sketched directly onto the copper plate outdoors, there is a genuinely fresh atmosphere to this beautifully spontaneous etched work. Only one impression is known of the open sketch in the first state; Frank Short added further detail and shading upon return to his studio to produce the beautifully balanced composition which we see here.
On simile Japan paper with margins. Evidence of former mounting at outer corners of sheet, otherwise very fine original condition. |
