Original Marjorie Firth wood engraving.
The number “1” impression from the only edition of 50 signed and numbered proofs.
Summer Evening was reviewed by the leading critic of the day, Malcolm Salaman, in The New Woodcut for 1930 (p.26) and it appears that the contemporary market for Marjorie Firth's work was strong with Summer Evening retailing for £1.11.6 upon its release in 1928. This attractive work of a figure fishing in an idyllic setting is typical of Marjorie Firth’s wood engraved landscapes.
On warm toned Japan paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. |
