Original Clifford Addams etching.

Unique early trial proof impression from the artist’s own personal collection, prior to the introduction of much heavy drypoint work. Signed and further inscribed “A imp.” in pencil.

The fine Venetian etchings of the American printmaker Clifford Addams rank amongst some of the most impressive and atmospheric etched works by any of Whistler’s followers. In particular, it is in his own superb trial proof printings, where Addams is seen testing the various effects of platetone and ink colour, that he truly excells.

An Obscure Turning, Venice is one of the artist’s finest Whistlerian etchings and one of his most beautiful Venetian images.

Printed in black ink with very delicate plate tone. On simile Japan paper with full margins. Some minor foxing and discolouration, principally in upper margin.
