Lieutenant Commander Roland Langmaid studied painting and etching with William Lionel Wyllie whilst serving in the Royal Navy. His finest drypoint works, like this wonderful image of a square rigger under full sail on a fine day, making it’s way to South America, rival those of his teacher. In this plate Roland Langmaid has introduced delicate tonal qualities throughout the image by using a lightly inked fine aquatint ground across the plate.

On cream wove paper, watermarked J Whatman, with full margins and deckle edge. Pale mat line in outer margins, otherwise very fine original condition.
