Original D.Y. Cameron etching.

Excellent impression with rich drypoint burr in the 4th state (of 5).

The intricately carved stonework surrounding the porchways of ancient churches provided the subject for many of Sir David Young Cameron’s etched works. It was in the variety and texture of these elaborate creations by the masons of old that the artist found the perfect challenge to satisfy his needle. Here, he could use the etching and drypoint mediums to display form and shadow, whilst giving depth to the composition through the seated foreground figure and the distant illumination of the background window.

On simile Japan paper, with full (narrow) margins and deckle edge.
