Original Ian Fleming etching.
Excellent impression printed in green ink. A special artist’s proof impression, aside from the normal edition, inscribed by the artist in pencil “Comment 16. A/P. Ian Fleming 78”.
Comment 16 is a striking example of Fleming’s mature work, his style having become increasingly independent and modernistic as his career progressed. The etched inscription on this plate reads:
Look to this day, for it is Life. In its brief course lie all the varieties & realities of your existence: the bliss of growth; the glory of action; the splendour of beauty. For yesterday is already a dream and tomorrow is only a vision. But today, well-lived, makes yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this day. Such is the salutation of the dawn.
On heavy cream wove paper with full margins. Very fine original condition. |
