Philip Gregory Needell was an accomplished original printmaker, who specialised in the multiple colour woodblock technique. His images include many landscapes depicting the coastal areas of Sussex and southern England, and he also made some dramatic woodblock prints of scenes upon the high seas from on board merchant ships. He exhibited regularly at the Society of Graver Printers in Colour between the years 1927 and 1936. Waterloo Place, Christchurch is a very fine example of Needell’s distinctive landscapes of southern England using colour woodblock printing as an original artform.

(N.B. – this image depicts Christchurch on the coast of southern England, NOT Christchurch in New Zealand.)

On simile Japan paper, with margins as prepared by the artist. Very fine original condition.
