Original Robert Sargent Austin engraving.
Superb signed proof impression, inscribed by the artist with title and the original price of 7 guineas, a considerable sum at the time.
Study of a Girl’s Head is considered to be one of Robert Sargent Austin’s finest plates. It is an outstanding example of his highly finished line engraving technique and is a tour de force in the medium.
This plate was engraved by Robert Sargent Austin in 1936 and impressions in each progressive state were printed between late 1936 and early 1937. This proof was printed just after the plate had been completed in 1937 and is signed and dated to that effect.
On pale cream wove pape with full margins. Faint suggestion of time tone within mat window area, otherwise very fine original condition. |
