Original Eleanor Hughes etching.
Rare proof impression in the second state of the plate. From the artist's personal collection.
In the first state of the plate, there is no tree to the left above the watermill and the centre tree lacks its lowest branch. In this second state these elements of the composition have been added, as has further work between the righthand tree and the righthand edge of the plate. In the third and final state Hughes removed the upper part of the etched work between the righthand tree and the righthand edge of the plate, leaving the area blank.
Nancothan, Buryas Bridge, lies about one mile inland from Newlyn in Cornwall.
On cream wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. |
