Special presentation proof, dedicated by the artist in pencil “For he’s a jolly good fellow! XXI today! To “Kim Peacock”. Fred Richards” and with a cartoon remarque of a running bird. Very fine proof impression printed with delicate plate tone. A proof aside from the normal edition, selected specially by the artist for a friend – ‘Kim Peacock’ is clearly a nickname..
Fred Richards was an outstanding architectural and topographical etcher. Richards trained under Frank Short at the Royal College of Art, becoming elected Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1913 and a full member in 1921. Some of his finest etched works come from his sojourn in Italy during the mid-1920’s.
On fine warm white wove paper. Full sheet with narrow margins and deckle edge. Laid on board, as prepared by the artist himself. Very good original condition. |
