This marvellous etched study of the shrine which stands in the Lagoon of Venice, at low tide, shows clearly the influence which Frank Short had upon the work of Fred Richards. However, in his handling of the reflections in the water, Fred Richards shows an individuality, quite distinct from the teachings of his early tutor. There is a delicate, decorative nature to the etchings of Fred Richards which sets them apart, both from the work of other etchers of the period and from purely topographical views.
On cream wove paper with wide margins. Time toned in outer margins and verso, otherwise very fine original condition. |
