The northern Italian lakes, especially the area around Lake Como, were a favourite haunt of Percival Gaskell. He found the effect of light reflected upon the waters of the lakes fascinating, and the contrast of Cyprus against Olive tree was the subject of a number of his original prints. This charming idyllic view, depicting a peasant seated beneath a tree on the slopes above one of the most scenic lakes in Europe, was perfectly suited to Gaskell’s temperament.
On smooth simile Japan paper, with margins. Very good original condition. Image surface excellent. |
