Very good, strong impression of Sir Hubert von Herkomer’s best-known etching.
Herkomer’s own children, Siegfried and Elsa posed for this etching, depicting the traditional German game of “The Babes in the Wood”, in which children use toys to represent the terrible beasts of prey which legends say the babes encountered after their cruel desertion in the forest.
On heavy wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Minor discolouration verso, otherwise generally very good original condition. |
