Particularly fine artistís proof impression, aside from the normal edition.
There is an almost Dickensian air to this morbid scene as a corpse is carried through the streets of London to the mortuary. Unlike the majority of William Monkís heavily worked topographical etchings, Strand Mortuary succeeds in bridging the divide between the Victorian era and early 20th century etching. It is, undoubtedly, one of the artistís most significant etched works.
On cream wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very good original condition.
